Olivier Awards 2018 – Preview

It’s here. The night every thespian has been waiting for. The Oliviers have finally arrived, after what can only be described as a mammoth year for theatre.

The Royal Albert Hall will fill with some of the biggest names in the business for a night of legendary performances, people and presentations of awards. Catherine Tate will be taking on the mighty job of hosting the evening alone.

The evening will be bursting at the seems with Hamilton, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Follies showing us what they have to offer. It is bound to make me want to empty my bank account and spent my days theatre hopping in the West End.

This year, Hamilton has been the talk of the theatre and received a record breaking amount of Olivier nominations. The musical has taken the theatre industry by storm this year, winning Tonys, Grammys and even a Pulitzer. Now it can add a record breaking 13 Olivier nominations to it’s ever growing list of achievements. It’s managed to beat Hairspray and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for the record, both with 11 nominations.

Other high flyers this year are Follies with 10 nominations and The Ferryman with 8. Amongst all the nominations there are some massive names that will be floating around the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow night. Imelda Staunton, Andrew Garfield, Lesley Joseph and Bryan Cranston to name a few.

I have been fortunate enough to have been invited to the official screening party of the Oliviers. *EEEEEEEEE* *cough* I will be live tweeting the event and award ceremony, so if you want the latest on who is picking up those gorgeous awards, then follow me on Twitter at @cheapseats_blog

I’ll leave all the nominations below so you can pick your favourite. You can watch the awards on ITV on Sunday 8 April from 10:20pm but I will be doing live updates throughout the night on social media.
